How The Burning Man Started
In the middle of the remote Black Rock Desert in Nevada, a temporary city appears like a mirage from the dust. Every year, free-spirited people come together to participate in the Burning Man festival, an event where art and self-expression are celebrated.
For a week, Black Rock City becomes a melting pot of thousands of individuals in eccentric fashion. The event reaches its peak when the massive effigy called “The Man” is set on fire that can be seen from way above the sky. Here are some of the perfectly captured moments of the annual celebration.
The Experience
The origins of Burning Man can be traced back to the summer of 1986. It all started when a small group of visionaries, including Larry Harvey, Jerry James, and about 30 close friends, gathered on the beautiful shores of Baker Beach in San Francisco and they set fire to an eight-foot-tall wooden effigy.
This act, which seemed unplanned, marked the beginning of Burning Man. Harvey described the first Burning Man as an embodiment of “radical self-expression,” a concept that would go on to define the event’s core principles.
The People It Attracts
Today, it is a globally recognized event that draws more than 50,000 participants every year. In a 2018 interview with The Washington Post, Jim Glaser, a New York resident, beautifully described the experience as “a captivating mix of wonder.”
He was amazed by the grand scale of the event, with its impressive laser displays, imaginative art cars, and flames everywhere, all created by individuals without much financial motivation. Glaser also said, “It happens in one of the loneliest parts of the country, but it becomes a center of extraordinary creativity, energy, and love, like nothing humanity has ever seen.”
One Place To Another
This event attracts people who are interested in unconventional, experimental, curious, and unique experiences. It functions as a lively community where items are not bought or sold but rather exchanged through giving, receiving, and self-sufficiency.
Every year, individuals make a journey to the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, a remote area about two-and-a-half hours north of Reno. There, they engage in a liberated and inclusive community for a joyful nine-day experience.
Celebrating Life
But how did they go from gathering in Baker Beach to the remote Black Rock Desert? Well, during the first few Burning Man gatherings held at Baker Beach, authorities intervened which led to a band a ban on the community’s activities in 1990. This was due to concerns about the risks of wildfires.
However, the founders, Jerry James and Larry Harvey, didn’t let this stop them and they moved the Burning Man and its community to the vast and empty desert. Here, every year, people gather to create a large settlement in a semi-circle shape that can even be seen from the sky.
Leave No Trace
Burning Man captures the spirit of enjoying life and honoring our brief time on Earth. It’s a celebration that calls for vibrant nights filled with music, dancing, and unrestricted celebration.
And what could be a more perfect way to dance and celebrate all night than being surrounded by a massive, larger-than-life boom box art installation? It’s a tribute that couldn’t be more fitting.
Creativity In The Desert
Every year, Burning Man comes to life as a vibrant and lively community in the Nevada desert, where people enjoy numerous stunning and massive art installations spread across the dry landscape.
Burning Man represents the important value of “leave no trace,” so most artists use natural and recycled materials. These large art pieces, like towering figures, create a captivating sight in the empty desert.
Fashion In Dry Land
Burning Man is not your typical music festival, but it definitely has lots of live music and an exciting dance culture. The nightlife at the event is amazing, with avant-garde dance clubs and incredible live concerts by famous musicians like Skrillex, Diplo, and Major Lazer.
Beyond the music, Burning Man is a special event that combines creativity, self-expression, and communal celebration. This unique mix of music, art, and Burning Man’s principles makes it an extraordinary gathering where the line between performer and spectator blurs.
Costumes Of All Kinds
At the Burning Man festival, it goes without saying that participants not only put effort into landscape attractions – the festival’s unique environment adds another layer to the costume choices.
Among all that, you’ll see quite a lot of people showing skin and their bare bellies. But amidst all the exposed midriffs, this is a place where people are free to express themselves in any way they want.
Biking To Burning Man
After all, the Burning Man festival is where imagination knows no limits and creativity is the only theme, which is evident in the costume choices of many of its skin-baring participants.
Some go all out in pulling off a costume that would blow everyone away, from a Mad Max-inspired costume to a praying mantis or whatever your imagination takes you.
Be Who You Are
Having a bicycle is essential at Burning Man. The event happens in Black Rock City, which covers about nine square miles and is full of busy streets and unique paths. Because of the intense Nevada sun, walking long distances is not practical. Therefore, a bicycle is the best way to get around.
In Black Rock City, you’ll see bikes everywhere. But these aren’t just any bikes. People bring their strongest and most durable bikes to match the event’s anti-capitalist, artistic values. In fact, Burning Man organizers encourage bike decoration, self-expression, and the desire to be unique.
Radical Inclusion
Burning Man is a unique place where people can freely express themselves and be true to who they are. In this desert setting, societal rules are left behind and individuals can embrace their true selves.
The goal is to fully immerse yourself in this special atmosphere, letting it influence every part of you. It’s about embracing and letting go of inhibitions and enjoying the collective spirit of being true to yourself without apology. Some people express this in various costume designs.
Money Is Meaningless
One of the ten principles of Burning Man is radical inclusion, which is the most important. It means that anyone can be part of Burning Man, regardless of their background. This promotes an atmosphere of inclusivity, but there are some issues that need to be considered beneath this idealistic principle.
However, only a small percentage are Black, Latino, or Asian, as the majority of attendees are white. This lack of diversity raises questions about how well the festival embraces this principle.
An Organized Chaos
At the Burning Man festival, your money is actually meaningless. The community believes in “decommodification,” which means they don’t focus on buying and selling. Instead of vendors selling things, people trade and give things to each other.
Moreover, Burning Man strongly opposes capitalism by carefully choosing its sponsors. In a world driven by corporate interests, this event remains a refreshing oasis of non-commercialism. Traditional money has no influence on the festival, making corporate sponsorships unnecessary. Instead, participants rely on self-reliance and working together to fulfill their needs and desires.
Love With The Sands
Burning Man is a large and well-organized event. Despite its appearance of chaos, it owes its success to the dedicated efforts of volunteer teams. These teams, including the box office crew and emergency services, work together to oversee Black Rock City and ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Many of the volunteers at Burning Man are experienced event participants. They can easily be recognized as they move around Black Rock City on bicycles and other unique modes of transportation, like the famous giant duck car. Interestingly, even if you suddenly feel the urge to contribute, you can volunteer on the same day.
Screaming For Ice Scream
With Burning Man’s sense of community and free love, it’s become a special place where couples meet, fall in love, and sometimes even get married. You can have a wedding at Burning Man, but it takes some planning ahead of time, usually a few weeks.
To start this unique wedding journey, couples must first find a willing wedding officiant among their fellow Burners who are attending Burning Man. This ensures that there will be an official person to perform the ceremony.
Rotating Rock Stairway
Speaking of love, who doesn’t love ice cream? Since 2012, a group of Burners has been making delicious ice cream for festival-goers in the hot desert. However, this is not an easy task, as it involves bringing liquid nitrogen to the harsh desert every year.
The members of this theme camp spend a whole year doing detailed research to make the best ice cream – and they succeed! They have special flavors like “Black Rock Rum Raisin” and “Burning Breakfast,” which is a delicious mix of bacon and bourbon. And the best part is that this ice cream is completely free. Burners don’t have to trade or bargain to get a taste. It’s a sincere gift from the camp to everyone who tries it.
Influencers In Burning Man
This festival offers a variety of exciting activities that guarantee an unforgettable experience. But to fully enjoy this event, you have to actively participate. And who wouldn’t want to witness amazing artistry and be part of the action?
Among the festival’s attractions, this setup stands out. At first glance, it may seem risky, but it doesn’t stop people who aren’t afraid of heights or uncertainty from trying it out. The fact that the festival organizers don’t provide injury insurance doesn’t seem to bother them either.
Burning Man Theme
Whether you like them or not, there’s no denying that social media influencers are everywhere these days. Their influence has even reached Burning Man, and this has raised some concerns. Burning Man is known for being against capitalism, but with more and more influencers attending, the event is starting to feel more commercial.
Long-time participants of Burning Man have expressed their frustration with the influx of influencers, as it changes the experience into something transactional. Even the CEO of Burning Man, Marian Goodell, talked about the issue of influencers in a blog post on the community’s platform. She openly criticized influencers who shamelessly plan photoshoots and post sponsored content for big companies.
New Identity With The Playa
At Burning Man, theme camps and villages have a big role to play. A theme camp is a group of Burners working together to create an interactive service or artwork, which they generously share with the Black Rock City community. Theme camps add an extra level of excitement to Burning Man, making the experience better for everyone.
Burning Man villages are a combination of at least two theme camps that come together and share their efforts and resources. Villages and theme camps are like small communities or rest stops where Burners can enjoy a variety of experiences. These experiences can range from tasty alcoholic snow cones to participating in handwritten letter exercises.
Don’t Forget To Dress Up
A big part of Burning Man culture is about Playa names. The term “Playa” is what Burners use to talk about the dried lakebed where the Burning Man event happens. On the Playa, you can be someone else and have fun exploring a new identity. This metal sculpture shows how a Playa name can help you become someone completely new.
Individuals can choose to adopt Playa names in different ways. Some people create their own names, while others wait for fellow Burners to give them one. Playa names are usually fun and creative, like “Sexy Bacon” or “Hooty.” Once you have a Playa name, it’s up to you how much you want to use it.
Biking In The Sonic Runway
While some Burners take their Burning Man fashion very seriously, as already mentioned, there are others who have a different approach. For example, there is an individual who has decided to go to the extreme by not wearing any clothes at all.
Interestingly, many attendees chose to bare their skin during the event, which is understandable considering the extremely hot desert sun throughout the day.
The Hot Weather And More
At Burning Man, the event’s unique character is shown through the prohibition of most motor vehicles and the interesting ways attendees get around. In the lively city, people mainly walk and bike to explore the landscape.
One memorable example of art in Burning Man’s biking culture was Sonic Runway in 2003. This amazing installation had 16 tall steel pyramids that stretched over 1,000 feet in the desert. What made Sonic Runway special was how it synced with music from a nearby DJ booth, creating a unique experience for people riding through it.
Covered In Dust
The weather at Burning Man should not be underestimated. Although newcomers may think the Black Rock Desert is hot and flat, it has more to offer. For Burners in Black Rock City, goggles, masks, and bandanas are essential. This is because the desert’s winds can reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour, causing unexpected dust storms.
Leaving your camp without goggles is a big no-no for any Burner. Nobody wants to ride their bicycle through a thick cloud of dust and dirt, risking getting rocks in their eyes. These people are well-prepared, wearing strong goggles and masks along with their colorful party leis. It’s clear that they are committed to having a great time.
Camping In The Desert
We often see beautiful photos of Burning Man with clear blue skies and a wide horizon, but the actual experience at the event is quite different. Burning Man takes place on a dry lake bed covered in alkaline dust.
In recent years, the increased number of people and vehicles has made the dust in the air even worse. If you decide to go to Burning Man, expect to be covered in dust the whole time. While the air quality might not be great, experts say that being exposed to the dust for a short time is not a long-term health risk for attendees. If there’s a dust storm, it’s a good idea to find shelter in your RV or tent until it’s over.
Burning Fire Everywhere
While there are theme camps at Burning Man, you don’t have to join one. Many people come prepared to set up a tent or camp in their vehicles instead. This is a cheaper option and is popular among first-time attendees.
Free camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can choose your camping spot and hope to get along well with other campers. One important part of the Burning Man camping experience is sharing resources and relying on new friends to handle the challenges of the desert climate comfortably. If you plan to attend Burning Man, be ready to contribute with a warm and generous attitude.
Please Be Careful With The Art
When it comes to Burning Man, there’s one thing that’s always true: there is fire everywhere. Whether it’s fire art, open campfires, or flame effects, fire is a big part of this week-long event. Even though some people think that Burning Man is a crazy free-for-all, the organizers care about fire safety more than anything else. Every fire art installation goes through a strict approval process.
Artists need to submit diagrams, a safety plan, and an emergency response plan before they can start creating their visions. Also, any Burner who uses pyrotechnics in their vehicle must have it checked by the Playa’s Department of Mutant Vehicles (DMV). The main goal at Burning Man is to make sure that everyone has fun while staying safe. The only things that should be on fire are the big art installations.
The Fertile Chaos Zone
Burning Man is not officially called a festival, but it has a festival-like atmosphere with a focus on art. It’s like a big outdoor museum where you can interact with the artwork. There are many large installations that are created through the collaboration of the Burning Man community. These huge and colorful cellos are great examples of art that depends on community involvement.
During the event, anyone could come and play these musical instruments. This inclusive approach allowed even those who had never played an instrument before to interact with this artwork. These large cellos may have been included in a community burning ritual at the end of the week, adding another meaningful aspect to the piece.
Burning Man And Steam Punk Fashion
Burning Man is loved by many for its unique and mind-expanding way of having fun. Located in the Black Rock Desert, just a two-hour drive from Reno, Nevada, the excitement among attendees grows as they get closer to the event’s entrance. It’s a shared understanding that they are about to enter a world of “fertile chaos zone,” as a sign appropriately indicates.
This term, “fertile chaos zone,” describes the well-known arts and culture event. It’s a place filled with dancing, drinks, lots of sun, and various enjoyments. The main idea of Burning Man is to tap into your own radical creativity. Here, everyone is free to explore their creativity in their own way, within reasonable limits. Burning Man ultimately becomes whatever you want it to be.
Bare Painting
Every year, more and more people attend Burning Man, and as a result, the costumes at the event are becoming more extravagant and eccentric. One popular accessory that Burners love is stilts. Stilts allow people to stand above the crowds, and their long legs add a unique touch to any outfit.
Groups of Burners often walk on stilts while moving through the Playa, adding an artistic element to their performance. However, it is important to prioritize safety. If attendees want to wear stilts as part of their costumes, they should have a high level of skill and be comfortable walking on the sandy desert terrain. For beginners, it is recommended to practice at home for several hours before attempting stilt-walking on the Playa.
Eco-Friendly Creations
Community engagement is one of the core principles of Burning Man, emphasizing active participation. According to this principle, “everyone is encouraged to get involved” and fully immerse themselves in meaningful experiences that take their Burning Man journey to new heights. For many participants, community engagement means dressing up in coordinated outfits, wearing elaborate wigs, and applying body paint liberally.
In this event, a group of people enthusiastically danced in a line, while being surrounded by a desert. As nudity is commonly accepted at Burning Man, it is not surprising that these enthusiastic participants decorated their bodies with colorful paint, ensuring every part was covered. It is important to note that they hopefully took precautions to protect their skin from the sun by applying enough sunblock.
Capture The Moments
Burning Man art installations are well-known for their creative use of reused materials, recycled pieces, and found objects. Artists often receive grants from Burning Man Arts to create their one-of-a-kind sculptures, in line with the event’s environmentally conscious philosophy. One of the most memorable Burning Man sculptures in recent history is this moving creation by artist Barry Crawford.
In 2018, the Rearing Horse, made with old machinery that Crawford found in trash dumps and salvage yards, was first displayed at the Burning Man event and caught the attention of many people. The sculpture has many moving parts, including the horse’s mane, limbs, and tail. It became so popular that it was later placed in different places in Nevada, such as a casino in Reno and the San Mateo Maker Faire.
When The Sun Sets
Many people enjoy taking a break from the digital world at the Burning Man festival. But we understand the temptation to take a few pictures. Each year, Burning Man has lots of amazing art installations that would make great backgrounds for your social media posts.
One person, inspired by an amazing art piece, decided to put on their best jumpsuit and highest wedges for a spontaneous photo session. Going to Burning Man is definitely a unique and unforgettable experience. So, why not capture your desert adventure with a collection of great photos?
A Tribute In The Desert
Burning Man is a continuous nine-day celebration that never loses its energy. However, the hot late summer weather can make you feel tired. To have a great time at Burning Man, it’s important to plan your activities wisely. While there are things to do during the day, the real fun begins after sunset.
The cooler night air brings more chances for fun, dance parties, amazing light shows, and impressive fireworks. The important thing is to stay open to the ever-changing experiences that happen at Burning Man at night. People who go to Burning Man often say that each night is a special adventure because of how big the event is and all the different camps to discover.
Living The Night
Every year, artists go to Burning Man to create amazing sculptures and buildings. David Best is particularly known for his incredible creations. In 2000, he made a temple to remember a friend who passed away in a motorcycle accident. He continued making new temples, including one in honor of the victims of the Parkland Shooting, and set it ablaze.
Every year, at Best’s temple, Burners have a special place to write heartfelt letters to their loved ones who have passed away. These letters are then placed in the temple as a meaningful goodbye. When Burning Man comes to an end, the temple is ceremoniously burned, along with the letters inside.
A Sandy Jellyfish
The festival is really good at giving a unique experience to its participants. There’s no doubt that moments like these can make you feel like you’re tripping, even without taking any drugs that people bring to the desert, even though they try to stop it.
One particularly captivating exhibit that deserves attention is the bright sculpture called “Truth is Beauty,” made by Marco Cochrane. The sculpture, which stands at a tall 80 feet, takes on a graceful pose reminiscent of a ballet dancer. Its true beauty is revealed at night when many small LED lights inside it light up, creating a mesmerizing show.
For The Women
In 2017, a huge jellyfish-shaped structure was created at Burning Man. It provided shade for festival participants in the hot Black Rock Desert. It was a welcome relief from the intense sun in such an open and exposed environment.
The artist Peter Hazel was the one who created this impressive structure. It is 40 feet tall and 30 feet wide. The structure is located at the Center Camp Cafe, which is a special place reserved for artists who have impressed the Burning Man Organization before.
More Than A Fleeting Moment
This 45-foot sculpture of a bare woman overlooks the Burning Man festival. She looks very calm and peaceful, showing how she’s completely surrendered to and in harmony with nature.
The artist made this artwork to make people see past the objectification of women and to put an end to violence against women. Surprisingly, the sculpture stayed up even after the festival’s main structure was burned. It stayed there until March 2018 when it was placed in front of the White House as a powerful symbol of its message.
Disney Land But For Adults
Once every year, a temporary city called Black Rock City appears and disappears in a short period of time. After Burning Man ends, the entire city magically transforms and disappears without leaving any evidence behind. To organize the necessary structures for this huge gathering of people, a group of volunteers worked tirelessly for almost a month to carefully set up the city’s base. One important part of this preparation is the creation of impressive and big sculptures.
Some artists spend a whole year creating their art. About two weeks before the grand opening, they come to Black Rock City to install their creations. The placement of each sculpture, installation, and camp is carefully planned by Burning Man volunteers. This makes the 9-mile city a busy center of art and culture for one week every year.
Burning For Drinks
If you love Disneyland’s famous Electrical Parade, we have exciting news for you. Think of Burning Man as the adult version of Disney’s Electrical Parade. Each night during the event, you will see specially-made sculptures, thrilling rides, and interactive installations lighting up the desert sky with a mix of LED lights and fire. The dark desert landscape creates a stunning backdrop for colorful neon light shows and impressive fireworks.
During the day, this detailed sculpture is a playground. But at night, it becomes a stunning light display. Unfortunately, when it gets dark, the slide is closed for safety. However, it still puts on a mesmerizing light show that can be admired from a distance. It’s important to keep a safe distance from any fire to fully appreciate Burning Man’s fascination with electricity. After all, bright lights are most beautiful when seen from far away.
Getting Creative With Mutant Vehicles
Burning Man is famous for its lively culture of non-stop drinking, psychedelics, and other mind-altering substances. However, not everyone who goes to the desert is looking for this loud celebration. In the Burning Man community, there is a growing number of people who choose to be sober, to the point that there are dedicated camps for those who prefer a sober experience.
At these camps, participants will only find chilled water in their large coolers. Thankfully, these theme camps focused on sobriety create a supportive environment for Burners who choose not to or are unable to engage in substance use. People can still fully enjoy the excitement of Burning Man while sipping on water. The extra benefit? No chance of waking up with a hangover the next day.
Tutu Tuesday
To get to Black Rock City, you have two choices: by car or RV. But don’t expect to see any regular SUVs there. When people arrive, they leave their normal cars behind and use mutant vehicles instead. These mutant vehicles are like moving pieces of art.
People at Burning Man have two options: they can either build their mutant vehicles from scratch or start with a basic frame and modify it. The more creative and unique their creations are, the better.
The Tower of Pink
Tutus are very popular at Burning Man. People love wearing tutus so much that they created “Tutu Tuesday” as a special day to wear them. It doesn’t matter what gender or identity you have, everyone happily wears colorful tutus inspired by raves every Tuesday during Burn Week.
Usually, people wear tutus with bathing suit tops, knee-high socks, and shorts. But some of the most daring Burners choose to wear nothing under their tutus, simply because they want to. The main goal of Tutu Tuesday is to promote self-expression and celebrate inclusivity. And, of course, it’s also a lot of fun and makes you feel free when you wear a tutu.
Dedicated Burners For Life-Long Friends
We get it. When you see this big tower, you probably think, “Oh, it’s the famous Empire State Building. What are we having for dinner? Oh, and we need to buy more eggs too.” But, please, just stop and look carefully.
Where else in the world can you find a huge, neon-pink rocket ship made specifically for adults? It’s quite rare, we can promise you. And to add to its uniqueness, this amazing contraption even has wheels at the bottom! It’s a movable rocket structure. The event known as Burning Man is truly one-of-a-kind and unmatched.
The Bat Country
Burning Man started as a small gathering of a few dozen people. Today, it attracts tens of thousands of attendees from all over the world to come together in Nevada’s desert. Even though Burning Man tickets are expensive now, dedicated Burners still attend every year. They look forward to reuniting with old friends and meeting new ones during the famous Burn Week.
Burning Man attracts people from all over the world, including Australia and the United Kingdom. While there are experienced attendees who come every year and have many friends, newcomers should not be intimidated. The Burner community is always welcoming to beginners who are ready to participate, have fun, and embrace the event’s DIY principles.
The Shark Mobile
To unleash the Burner’s playful spirit, there’s another way – reach great heights on this huge structure called “Bat Country.” This towering sculpture is an impressive 21 feet tall and was chosen as one of the 2013 Burning Man Honorarium Art Projects. At first glance, the triangular, multi-tiered climbing frame may seem to be made of the same metal bars as the monkey bars on a regular playground.
However, this amazing climbing structure is made of 384 aluminum baseball bats and 130 softballs, cleverly used as joints. For those who love math, Bat Country is a cool geometric design: a third-generation Sierpinski tetrahedron.
Bliss Dancing Sculpture
Not all of the art installations at Burning Man stay in one place. In fact, a cool part of the event is when vehicles are turned into moving artworks that go around the festival, interacting with people. One of the awesome mobile creations is a shark painted with bright neon colors.
All aboard! This amazing shark-themed vehicle was carefully made for Burning Man 2012 with a clear goal: to challenge the scary image from the Jaws movies and bring in a feeling of happiness and awe. This huge great white shark let Burners enter its belly, look through its sharp teeth to see where they were going, and, most importantly, have a wonderful ride across the Playa.
The Scrap-Metal Octopus
Marco Cochrane created a captivating and lively dancer sculpture called “Bliss Dance” for the festival. It is 40 feet tall and weighs 7,000 pounds. The artwork was displayed at Burning Man in 2010. Made from stainless steel mesh, the dancer shines beautifully in the daylight. At night, it becomes even more mesmerizing with 1,000 LED lights.
The beautiful sunset in this picture gives the dancer a magical, heavenly look. Bliss Dance got a lot of praise from festival judges. Cochrane was born in Italy and grew up in California during the Civil Rights Movement. Her art is all about empowering women.
The Giant Ballerina
Behold one of the most unique vehicles to ever grace the Playa’s vast desert landscape. This amazing creation is adorned with huge flaming tentacles, unlike anything you’ve seen before. Standing at an impressive height of 25 feet, it’s a massive flamethrower. It made its debut at Burning Man in 2011 and is known as El Pulpo Mecanico, or simply, the Giant Flaming Octopus.
This incredible masterpiece combines art and advanced technology, using a 1973 Ford 250 pickup truck as its foundation. The impressive beast consumes a massive 200 gallons of propane each night, prompting the resourceful creators from Humboldt County to gather donations to ensure its return. In this captivating photo from the 2012 event, you can see this remarkable creation shining under a mesmerizing, starry sky.
Burning The Man
If you ask almost any Burner, they will excitedly talk about the festival and the Playa as a huge playground for grown-ups. Here, you are encouraged to embrace your inner child, wear fun clothes, and have fun without being judged. One amazing installation at Burning Man is a giant ballerina, which reminds many people of their childhood ballet classes.
However, ballet, on the other hand, requires precision, discipline, and unwavering focus. These qualities are different from the spontaneous nature of children. As adults watch this impressive dancer, it reminds them of their ability to rediscover the freedom of movement, dance without inhibition, and explore their bodies just like they did when they were children. They can do this without worrying about their posture or technical perfection.
After spending eight days in the desert, it is now time for the Man to be burned. A large number of Burners, tens of thousands in total, gather around the huge wooden structure, all looking forward to the start of the ceremonial ritual.
In recent versions of Burning Man, these exciting moments are enhanced by the captivating performances of fire dancers and impressive firework shows. For a special view, a drone’s video captures the impressive sight of Black Rock City on the final night of Burning Man 2018.
